Regarding the Action of Hydrate of Soda,

چکیده
IN No. 1, Vol. III., of the JOURNAL OF PHYSIOLOGY Dr. Gaskell records some experiments regarding the respective action of antiarin, hydrate of soda, muscarin, and digitalin on the ventricle of the frog's heart. In this paper I record some experiments on the action of soda, ammonia, and potash on the same structure. In most respects my experiments with soda hydrate agree with those of Dr. Gaskell; in some respects, however, my tracings differ from his tracings. These experiments were made with Roy's tonometer. I tied the ventricle to the cannula by a ligature passed round the auriculo-ventricular groove, so that I experimented only with the ventricle. I used dried bullock's blood dissolved in water so as to represent normal blood; to this solution I added saline solution in the proportion of one part of blood to two of saline. Of this mixture I employed three ounces in each experiment. These experiments were made in June. The tracings run from left to right. I find that soda, ammonia, and potash affect the ventricle in much the same way. There are, however, differences in their action. I shall first describe the characters in which they all agree, and then point out in what respect the action of potash differs from the action of soda and ammonia. Ammonia.

Soda Taxes: The Importance of Analysing Policy Processes; Comment on “The Untapped Power of Soda Taxes: Incentivising Consumers, Generating Revenue, and Altering Corporate Behaviours”
Sarah A. Roache and Lawrence O. Gostin’s recent editorial comprehensively presents soda taxation rationales from a public health perspective. While we essentially agree that soda taxes are gaining momentum, this commentary expands upon the need for a better understanding of the policy processes underlying their development and implementation. Indeed, the umbrella concept of soda taxation actual...
متن کاملThe Untapped Power of Soda Taxes: Incentivizing Consumers, Generating Revenue, and Altering Corporate Behavior
Globally, soda taxes are gaining momentum as powerful interventions to discourage sugar consumption and thereby reduce the growing burden of obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Evidence from early adopters including Mexico and Berkeley, California, confirms that soda taxes can disincentivize consumption through price increases and raise revenue to support government programs. The Unit...
متن کاملKinetics of Propane Hydrate Formation in Agitated Reactor: A Mass Transfer Approach
Understanding the kinetics of gas hydrate formation is essential to model and predict the hydrate formation (or dissociation) process. In the present paper, we investigated the formation of pure propane gas hydrate as a former gas. In this regard, several experiments were conducted to measure the rate of hydrate formation under various pressures (410 to 510 kPa) and temperatures (274 K to 277 K...
متن کاملModeling of Gas Hydrate Formation in the Presence of Inhibitors by Intelligent Systems
Gas hydrate formation in production and transmission pipelines and consequent plugging of these lines have been a major flow-assurance concern of the oil and gas industry for the last 75 years. Gas hydrate formation rate is one of the most important topics related to the kinetics of the process of gas hydrate crystallization. The main purpose of this study is investigating phenomenon of gas hyd...
متن کاملProcesses and apparatuses for formation, separation, pelletizing storage and re-gasification of gas hydrate
In recent years, the feasibility of utilizing gas hydrates in industrial systems draws much attention as a subject of engineering studies. Despite the suggested applications for gas hydrate in transportation and storage of natural gas, desalination of water, etc., there have been few applied industrial experiences with gas hydrates. There are several patents and papers on promotion of gas hydra...
